Raising the Standards of Performance throughout Africa

The Africa Institute for Leadership and Public Administration is a professional training institution whose mission is to provide skills enhancement to managers, policymakers, and leaders in the techniques of performance management in businesses, public service, government and other organizations within the context of African society, with the ultimate goal of raising the standards of performance throughout the African Continent.

While geographically located in Lagos, Nigeria, the institute is at once African, global, and independent. AILPA supports research into systems of governance and management around the world. Making use of a multidisciplinary approach, the Africa Institute will offer two kinds of academic programs:

  • Executive Education (competency-based, short-term training for experienced leaders); and,
  • Advanced Programs (graduate- level, long-term academic programs with degrees awarded).

The institute will be part of a global network of scholars and practitioners who focus on the various aspects of the public service arena and business management within their respective academic disciplines or specialty areas. It will prepare its constituents for leadership roles in management, civil society, and policy analysis.

Our Team

Dr. Olayemi Cardoso


Dr. Olayemi Cardoso is currently the Chairman of Citibank Nigeria and was the premier Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos State. He is a career banker and development policy specialist. Dr. Cardoso holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Harvard University and was a Mason Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. His undergraduate degree is in business from Aston University in the Uk. In 2017, Dr. Cardoso was Awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Business Administration from his alma mater, Aston University, in recognition of his “outstanding contributions to both business and society.”

Dr. Andrew S. Nevin


Dr. Andrew S. Nevin, PhD., is one of PwC’s leading global thinkers, working at the complex confluence of economics, strategy, and regulation. He has almost three decades of professional experience as an Economist, Strategy Consultant, line manager, and private equity investor; and, in his professional career has previously lived in Asia, North America, and Europe. He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University and an MA in Philosophy and Politics and Economics from Balliol College, Oxford where he was a Rhodes scholar.

Dr. Adhiambo Odaga


Dr. Adhiambo Odaga is an independent consultant. She has held positions as Managing Director of the Dangote Foundation as well as being the Ford Foundation representative for West Africa for 11 years. She holds a Ph.D. from St. Anthony’s College, Oxford, which she attended as Kenya’s first Rhodes Scholar

Ms. Mamu Okoloko

Communications and Events Director

Ms. Mamu Okoloko is a Human Resource Professional with over 12 years of HR experience as a generalist. As a HR consultant, she worked as Head, Human Resources and Administration in MTech Communications, Funmobile Limited and Plycon Limited. She has been a Trustee at Change Nigeria Project UK in Nigeria for 5 years. She holds a Bachelors degree in English Language from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and a Diploma in French from Universite D’abomey Calavi, Replublic of Benin. She is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).
