Shubham Chaudhuri, an Indian-born US national is the World Bank’s Country Director for Nigeria. He began his appointment in Nigeria on October 1, 2019.
From November 2016 to July 2019, Shubham was the World Bank’s Kabul-based Country Director for Afghanistan, responsible for managing the overall program of the World Bank in Afghanistan and the strategic engagement with government and international partners.

Prior to his appointment in Afghanistan, Shubham was the South Asia Practice Manager for the World Bank’s Macroeconomics and Fiscal Management Global Practice, overseeing the macrofiscal and economic policy-related teams and work of the World Bank in the South Asia region.
From August 2012 till June 2014, Shubham was the manager of the Washington, DC-based team of the World Bank’s Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Department for East Asia and the Pacific. Before that, Shubham was the World Bank’s Jakarta-based Lead Economist for Indonesia, responsible for leading the overall economic policy dialogue, advisory and development policy lending work of the World Bank in Indonesia.

Shubham joined the World Bank in 2004 after a decade at Columbia University in New York, where he was an economics professor and Director of the Program in Economic and Political Development. His research, published in journals such as the American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, Econometrica, Journal of Public Economics and Journal of International Economics, spanned a number of areas within development economics, from poverty and vulnerability to trade and investment climate to participatory budgeting and fiscal decentralization. Shubham obtained his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from Princeton University, both in economics.

Eme Essien Lore is an international development finance professional with over 20 years of global experience in designing and implementing private sector financing solutions in areas such as infrastructure, manufacturing and financial inclusion.  Currently she serves as a Manager at the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation, where she is a member of the Africa Leadership Team and oversees the Nigeria operations, the largest single country program in the region.  Her role includes strategy development and execution, business development, client relationship management and oversight of the local team and office.
